Bio: William N. Valavanis became interested in bonsai and horticulture at age 11 and pursued his interest by studying Ornamental Horticulture at SUNY Farmingdale and Cornell University. He has made over 50 trips to Japan and formally apprenticed with Kyuzo Murata and Kakutaro Komuro in Omiya Bonsai Village in Japan. Additionally a 30-year study and association with Yuji Yoshimura combined with his formal horticultural degrees, apprenticeships in Japan and his artistic talent provide Bill with the solid background to promote and teach Classical bonsai art around the world.

He is the proprietor of the International Bonsai Arboretum in Rochester, New York where he maintains a fine personal collection of Classical bonsai. He offers introductory and advanced classes as well as seminars and symposia in Rochester, New York. He also maintains a busy teaching schedule for bonsai and horticultural organizations worldwide. In order to further promote the artistic and horticultural expression of Classical bonsai art around the world he began publishing International BONSAI magazine 30 years ago. He has authored two books and many articles published in English, Japanese and other European languages.

Bill is an active member and officer of numerous local, national and international bonsai and horticultural organizations. His distinctive bonsai and displays have received many awards both in the United States and abroad.

Rob grows exceptional material and has a great eye for finding the line of a tree. He hand picks his trees to ensure high quality and can grow a root ball like crazy. He is fun to work with, knows an enormous amount about horticulture, and is great at putting together the whole composition.

I have been buying bonsai field stock from Rob for years now and find the quality exceptional and the prices very competitive.
Rob’s knowledge of horticulture and bonsai is extensive. When I go shopping for a new tree at his place I always find something new and exciting. I can’t wait to go back and see what is new.

Mr Macgregor is a Master bonsai artest. I’ve been to his studio for many work shops where we would select and dig our trees from his growing fields. The trees are amazing and allways have great root balls and ready for a Bonsai pot. All my trees look great!!!
I allso attended a 5 week class with Rob where we made pots for our trees at the end of the class we had a great tree and a hand made pot to match. Rob lives for Bonsai and his stock shows it. You will not find better Bonsai anywhere.

Rob lives bonsai and his passion and willingness to share is apparent. His word is as good as gold and he carries a nice stock of Ohio grown trees at very resonable prices. His pre-bonsai stock is large and he has more finished trees than most. He also carries a large collection of viewing stones, slabs and planters. If you are interested in bonsai and want trees that will survive in Ohio climate, you cannot go wrong by visiting Rob.
